Early Detection of Alzheimer's Disease by Relayed NOE CEST MRI

Abstract

We evaluated a new chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) technique, relayed nuclear Overhauser effect (rNOE)-CEST, which is able to detect the protein aggregation in Alzheimer's Disease (AD) mouse that associated with the A accumulation. One optimized ultra short echo (UTE)-CEST method was applied on APP AD mouse models for detecting rNOE-CEST with high sensitivity and robust to motions. Strong age dependent rNOE-CEST signal was found in the APP mice compared to the wild type mouse through our longitudinal study. In order to make the UTE-CEST sequence available for clinical application, we further improved the method and introduced the Periodically Rotated Overlapping ParallEL Lines with Enhanced Reconstruction (PROPELLER) based method for the rapid acquisition of multi-slice rNOE-CEST on 3T human scanner
