Impact of Shortages of Processed Materials on Programs of Vital National Interest

Abstract

Past shortages of processed materials such as steel, aluminum, castings, forgings, and electronic components increased costs and delayed schedule of procurements; obtaining a priority rating minimized the effect on defense programs, but some civil programs could not obtain such a rating.
