Research and Demonstration Programs to Achieve Water Quality Goals: What the Federal Government Needs To Do

Abstract

This is our report on Federal water pollution research and demonstration programs which was undertaken pursuant to section 5 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments of 1972 (33 U.S.C. 1.251 note). The act required the Comptroller General to conduct a study of the research, pilot and demonstration programs related to the prevention, abatement and control of water pollution which are conducted, supported or assisted by any agency of the Federal Government and assess the conflicts between and the coordination and efficacy of such programs.
