Records of the World War. Field Orders 2d Army Corps

Abstract

To make documents relating to the recent war available to historical investigators, it is necessary to print them. For this procedure the precedent was set in the Official Records of the War of the Rebellion. Those records were arranged, before publication, according to military operations. It is found, however, that arrangement of the documents now in question according to this plan will involve great delay; in the case of the Rebellion Records, the first volume was not issued until 1880. A classification has therefore been adopted which will permit publication of each set of documents independently, as it becomes available, each new volume as published fitting into its proper place in the general scheme. This classification is given in tabular form on the following page. The text is as nearly as possible a reproduction of the original, including errors. The records are classified for publication as follows: Class A-Records of Military Operations Overseas. Class B-Records of Services of Supply Overseas. Class C-Records of Military Activities in the United States.
