STUDY BY THE STAFF OF THE U.S. General Accounting Office: Domestic Housing And Community Development: Issues For Planning

Abstract

Many serious housing and community development problems face our Nation during the 1980s. Housing costs have risen to the point where few American families can afford to buy a home. At the same time, the Nation is facing a severe shortage of rental housing with almost no private construction of rental housing for low- and moderate-income families. To compound these problems the number of households will increase 19 percent during the 198Os, placing greater demand on the housing supply.
