Need For Improved Review And Coordination Of the Foreign Affairs Aspects Of Federal Research

Abstract

Research performed in foreign countries or otherwise bearing on foreign affairs is sponsored in some degree by nearly every large agency of the Federal Government. The General Accounting Office (GAO) reviewed the management of the foreign affairs aspects of this research to identify problems and make observations concerning (1) the review and clearance by the State Department for political sensitivity of proposed research projects and (2) the coordination of foreign affairs research among agencies.
