Equipping the 21st Century Marine Corps: Alternative Equipping Strategies for Task-Organized Units
Abstract
In recent years, the United States Marine Corps (USMC) has used a variety of task-organized provisional units to meet increasing mission demands. These provisional units are defined as "service or combatant commander-directed temporary assembl[ies] of personnel and equipment organized for a limited time for accomplishment of . . . specific mission[s]." Like regular units, these units are manned, trained, and equipped to conduct a myriad of missions across the range of military operations. However, they are assembled in nontraditional ways from personnel and equipment sources across the Marine Corps.
