Cybersecurity: A Navy and CSUCI Collaboration

Abstract

This whitepaper is a result of active collaboration between the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division and Dr. Michael Soltys from the California State University Channel Islands. This pa-per was developed in part during the Office of Naval Research, Summer Faculty Research Program while Professor Soltys was engaged with Cyber Security Leadership at the Command. This paper summarizes the need for cyber security professionals in the Navy workforce and provides potential methods in which the California State University Channel Islands and the Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme Division can leverage the existing Education Partnership Agreement as well as potential other contract mechanisms to further the mutual goals of the organizations. Additionally recommendations are provided to create opportunities of scholarship and employment for graduating students.
