Review of Substantial Impact to Human Health and Safety - Aviano AB Sites

Abstract

On 12 June 2020, the office of the U.S. Air Force Medical Readiness Agency (AFMRA) requested support from the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) Occupational and Environmental Health Department to provide recommendations for the substantial impact to human health and safety determination of two sites at Aviano Air Base (AB), Italy. Sampling results for the specific locations were provided to USAFSAM on 30 June 2020 and are summarized in Attachment 1. Sample results indicated the sites may have exceeded the threshold limit for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) listed in the Italy Final Governing Standard (FGS-I). USAFSAM recommended follow-up screening at one location, which was conducted by Bioenvironmental Engineering, and provided on 2 December 2020.
