Personal Experience Paper: Maintaining Standards

Abstract

My assignment to HHC, 2/502nd IN Regt. began August 29, 2002. The unit was in the middle of change of command inventories, had been without a First Sergeant for over a month, and did not have a company Executive Officer. The unit was also without a Battalion Command Sergeant Major since June 10, 2002. HHC had 13 different sections and they all had their own agenda. There was very little discipline, standards, or goals within the ranks, NCOs as well as the Soldiers. I focused on molding the company into a cohesive, productive unit. This paper covers the process from the beginning of my assignment to the redeployment of the unit at the end of Operation Iraqi Freedom on February 2, 2004.
