Months of Mission-Ready Service: Refinement of a Criterion Measure for a Modernized Selection and Classification System
Abstract
Months of Mission-Ready Service (MM-RS) is an indicator of the amount of time in the first four years of service for which an Airman is mission capable. The calculation of MM-RS was updated to standardize it across Air Force Specialties (AFS), and then a series of variables were evaluated to determine if it could be predicted. These variables included aptitude, enlistment demographic, and personality factors. Both Air Force wide and individual AFS data were analyzed. Results indicated that these variables accounted for a small proportion of the variance in MM-RS for the Air Force overall. The best predictors of MM-RS across AFSs were education, term of enlistment, and age. While MM-RS is not a statistically strong criterion, it could be useful for selection and classification and the mitigation of adverse impact.
