Associations Between Oral Health Knowledge, Locus of Control, and Caries Risk Status

Abstract

Dental caries is the most common oral disease and a major cause of tooth loss(Frencken et al., 2017). It is a condition that afflicts all ages and races among the worlds population. In a recent study completed by National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) in 2011-12, 91% the adult (Jones, Lee, and Rozier, 2007) population aged 20-64, had dental caries and 27% had untreated caries. In adults aged 65 and older, over 96% had caries (Dye et al., 2015). Dental caries is not exclusive to the civilian population, it also affects the military.
