Racial Differences in Adolescent Mental Health Care within the Military Health System

Abstract

Background: Mental health disparities (MHD) have been found amongst all age ranges, including adolescence. However, disparity research primarily investigates adults and civilian health care settings. The Military Health System (MHS) is a universal healthcare system for military personnel and their dependents. Research has indicated that the MHS removes many of the barriers that contribute to health disparities, in particular removing differences in access to care. Additional investigations with this population would greatly contribute to our understanding of diagnostic differences and health services delivery without the barrier of access to care.
