JSOU Quick Look: Ethics

Abstract

As recently highlighted in U.S. Special Operations Commands (USSOCOM) comprehensive review of Special Operations Forces (SOF) formations, America sends SOF operators into some of the most ambiguous situations because the nation trusts them to handle these missions with competence and character. When SOF operators behave unethically, it erodes the trust placed in SOF by the American people, congressional leaders, and across the joint environment. To maintain high standards of competence and character, SOF operators at all levels must ensure operational objectives and ethical considerations remain nested. However, in todays complex security environment, achieving mission success and maintaining strict ethical standards may sometimes seem at odds.
