Cybersecurity Network Monitoring Challenge in Commercial Service Provider Clouds

Abstract

This paper explores the challenges in performing traditional cybersecurity network monitoring inside a commercial Cloud Service Provider (CSP). The intent of this paper is not to encourage or discourage traditional network monitoring within a commercial cloud, but rather to explorethe issues that need to be considered when deciding on such a course. The paper focuses on Microsofts Azure and Amazons Amazon Web Services (AWS). The challenges and recommendations in this paper may also be relevant to additional Cloud Service Providers (e.g.,Google, IBM, and Oracle).
