Tomb of the Unknowns

Abstract

The United States Army has been the only military service since 25 March 1926 to guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Brigadier General William D. Connor suggested the concept of honoring our unknown war dead and Congressman Hamilton Fish, Jr., of New York introduced Public Resolution 67 of the 66th Congress on 21 December 1920. On 4 March 1921, Congress approved the resolution and declared 11 November 1921 a legal holiday to honor all those who participated in World War I ("Where did the Idea") .
