Leveraging Complexity in Great-Power Competition and Warfare: Volume II, Technical Details for a Complex Adaptive Systems Lens

Abstract

In this technical volume, we provide context and supporting material to the frameworks in Leveraging Complexity in Great-Power Competition and Warfare: Volume I, An Initial Exploration of How Complex Adaptive Systems Thinking Can Frame Opportunities and Challenges. Chapter 2 of this volume provides a more-thorough discussion of complex adaptive systems (CAS), informed by a survey of literature. Although the concept of complexity is widely represented among academic disciplines and professional fields, there is no unified definition.
