Why a Focus on Attitudes Is Important to Army Teams

Abstract

Accurate knowledge of others has been linked not only to relationship benefits, but also better physical and mental health. Here, we focus on the relevance of a certain type of partner knowledge, knowledge of others attitudes, to Army teams and tasks. Applying the study of attitude familiarity to workplace teams, recent work has found that manipulating familiarity in the laboratory can improve team performance on Army-relevant tasks. When teammates learn their partners task-relevant attitudes, they exhibit more accurate and faster performance.
