Cleanroom Software Engineering Implementation of the Capability Maturity Model(CMM) for Software

Abstract

The Capability Maturity Modelsm for Software (CMM) [CMU 95] developed by theSoftware Engineering Institute, and Cleanroom Software Engineering [Mills 87,Linger 93, Linger 94] developed by Dr. Harlan Mills and his associates in IBM andother organizations, share a common concern with software quality and theeffectiveness of software development. The principal focus of the CMM is onprocess management maturity; the principal focus of Cleanroom is on rigorousengineering processes. The CMM management processes and the Cleanroomengineering processes are complementary and mutually reinforcing.
