The Defense Production Act Committee (DPAC): A Primer

Abstract

The Defense Production Act of 1950 (DPA, 50 U.S.C.4501 et seq.) confers on the President authorities tomobilize domestic industry in service of national defense,broadly defined, including emergency preparedness. In2009, the DPA statute was amended to create the DPACommittee (DPAC), which would serve as an interagencyplatform for advising the President and coordinating DPAactivities across the government. This In Focus considersthe establishment, development, and policy issuessurrounding the DPAC, given ongoing congressionalinterest in DPA authorities and existing mechanisms fortheir current and future implementation.
