Data Analytics to Enhance Election Transparency

Abstract

The 2020 United States presidential election occurred during a time when public opinion about election integrity involved levels of concern that were not customary in the nation. To help ensure public trust and confidence by providing some additional transparency, MITRE's National Election Security Lab gathered and analyzed a wide range of relevant data. The team, dubbed "Bald Eagle," operated between October 2020 and early January 2021. Bald Eagle researched several topics and data sources related to the 2020 presidential election in eight swing states. Bald Eagle conducted analysis on data available before Election Day, including data related to early voting, early voting methods, and return and rejection rates of early ballots.
