Review of Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP)

Abstract

The Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP) is a DoD funding mechanism for purchasing research instrumentation and equipment with the goal of modernizing U.S. research infrastructure at universities to promote high-quality research in areas of interest to the DoD. The review results indicate that DURIP is achieving its intent to fund the purchase of equipment that increases the research capability for DoD-funded principal investigators. Through qualitative and quantitative analysis, there appears to be a positive impact of DURIP funding for DoD research conducted at universities. To place the findings in context, an overview of other instrumentation programs in non-DoD agencies of the U.S. government and in other countries were provided.
