Development of a Radon Background Subtraction Algorithm for the Electronic Personal Dosimeter

Abstract

The work provided by Colorado State University (CSU) under subcontract encompasses the development of an algorithm to subtract radon (Rn) background from the reading provided by electronic personal dosimeters (EPDs). This allows users / operators to distinguish ubiquitous natural radiation signals from man-made sources of ionizing radiation potentially of concern. A generic mathematical / statistical formalism for the algorithm was derived by consideration of the raw data / signals expected from any two-channel EPD.
