Test of Propeller Shaft Revolution Indicator System Manufactured and Submitted by the Electric Tachometer Corporation Philadelphia, PA

Abstract

The system, shown by Plate 1, was set up at this Laboratory and closely observed while under test for conformance with specifications, reference (b). Both shaft transmitters were rotated ahead at a speed corresponding to shaft speeds of 400 r.p.m. for a period of 500 hours. The direction of rotation of both shafts was reversed for a period of one hour in every 24 hours. The total revolutions of the port and starboard shaft and transmitters and the master indicator transmitters were compared daily and logged. All instruments were tested for shock integrity and examined to determine whether the material submitted was in strict accordance with the specifications.
