DOD Can Save Millions Of Dollars By Improving The Management Of Air Force Inventories

Abstract

The Air Force Logistics Command is responsible for technical and logistics support of Air Force weapon systems.The command carries out its responsibilities at headquarters located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (AFB), Ohio, andat five air logistics centers. These five centers collectively manage 837,000 Air Force items of supply. At eachcenter, an item is assigned to an item manager who determines worldwide requirements, quantities to be acquired, and whereand how many items should be stocked.
