The Center for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (CFE-DMHA): An Assessment of Roles and Missions

Abstract

The President's 2015 National Security Strategy calls for the U.S. military to be ready to mitigate the effects of natural disasters, both at home and abroad, and to be postured globally to "render humanitarian and disaster relief, and build the capacity of [U.S.] partners to join with [the United States] in meeting security challenges." Disaster management and humanitarian assistance (DMHA), therefore, constitute an integral mission of the U.S. armed forces.
