Speech Input Equipment for Model TBL-4 Transmitter (Resubmitted Model)

Abstract

In general, good performance is obtained from the resubmitted model of be Speech Input Equipment. Its operation is much to be preferred to that of an earlier model tested by this Laboratory, (b) The Speech Input Equipment contains a few electrical and mechanical defects and does not strictly comply with all provisions of the specifications. All defects appear to be either of a kind which are capable of being remedied, or, on the other hand, to be of such nature that they may be tolerated without undue restrictions upon the usefulness of the equipment. (c) If the necessary remedial action be taken as indicated in this report, the equipment will then be considered suitable for use in the Naval Service. (d) The antenna systems used for the transmission of intermediate frequencies in modern naval vessels not only present many problems to ordinary radio telegraphic transition in the lower portion of the intermediate frequency band, but also alter the performance of voice radio transmitting equipment in this frequency region, and introduce other factors which to a certain extent impair the usefulness of voice transmission.
