Subsistence Readiness and Supply Chain Innovation Assessment
Abstract
The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) tasked LMI to assess DLA's performance as the executive agent (EA) for the Department of Defense Class I-Subsistence supply chain and to evaluate how innovative practices and technologies could improve the subsistence supply chain. LMI assessed the Class I-Subsistence functions by examining current operational and technological capabilities, as well as associated gaps. LMI solicited surveys and conducted interviews with each of the military services, geographic COCOMS, and TRANSCOM. For the readiness assessment, survey respondents and interviewees generally rated DLA's EA performance and their satisfaction with DLA as the DoD EA favorably. DLA's customers, the military services and the geographic UCCs generally believe DLA is performing well in pursuing innovation as the EA. After documenting the readiness and innovation assessment findings, key supply chain gaps were summarized and a list of innovative technologies and practices that may improve the subsistence supply chain along with recommended research and development (R and D) ideas was provided for DLA consideration.
