Comparison of Apple Watch to Commercial Noise Dosimeters

Abstract

Noise-induced hearing loss, a workplace injury, is a serious impairment that critically reduces military readiness, effectiveness, safety, and fitness for duty. This study measured accuracy and feasibility of Series 5 Apple Watches microphone and Apple Health app in capturing noise exposures, as compared against two reference systems: Larson Davis (LD) Model 2559 random incidence microphone and LD Model 831 Type 1 sound level meter (SLM).
