How Extremism Operates Online: A Primer

Abstract

On May 7, 2021, the United States endorsed the Christ church Call to Action to Eliminate Terrorist and Violent Extremist Content Online, joining a coalition of member governments, international organizations, and private technology companies that have pledged to combat malicious actors exploitation of theinternet.1 In its announcement, the White House affirmed that [c]ountering the use of the internet by terrorists and violent extremists to radicalize and recruit is a significant priority for the United States.2
