Advancing Cyber Assurance with Deep Learning

Abstract

We summarize the results of a Research Specialists Workshop on Deep Machine Learning for Cyber Defence held virtually on 19-21 October 2021. We report to NATO Science and Technology Organisation on current and emerging cybersecurity applications of deep learning analysed at this forum via our paper. The workshop objectives were to introduce new perspectives, expose government research in related areas, illustrate how deep learning applies to cybersecurity, and introduce operational needs in the application of deep learning to military operations in cyberspace. Overall, the outcomes were greater awareness of the problem and opportunities, establishment of common needs across application domains, and documenting a path forward.
