General Survey of the Use of Methyl Bromide as a Fire Extinguishing Agent

Abstract

The dominating characteristics of extinguishers utilizing methyl bromide, carbon tetrachloride and carbon dioxide, are compared and discussed with only general reference to their conditions of application. Results of qualitative comparative tests of oil fires at the Laboratory using the above materials are given. Although the present availability of the methyl bromide extinguisher is not too clear a picture, the advantages it possesses in weight and volume per unit effectiveness apparently warrant additional knowledge and study of its limitations under specific requirements of application to fire risks.
