A Snapshot of the Department of the Air Force Total Force Recruiting Integration: Survey Results and Implications

Abstract

The longevity and strength of any organization is heavily dependent on its ability to attract new members, and, therefore, optimizing recruiting is essential. The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is among the largest organizations in the United States. As of June 2020, the DoD employs nearly 2.9 million people in military and civilian roles; the U.S. Department of the Air Force (DAF) makes up approximately 675,000 of that count. Each year, the military services outline targeted goals for the number of individuals needed to sustain the health of the force. In fiscal year (FY) 2019, about 50,000 individuals (officer and enlisted) joined the Regular Air Force, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve.
