Test Report XB-70 Flight 1-2

Abstract

The second flight of XB-70A No. 1 (Flight 1-2), conducted from 1617 to 1712 hours on 5 Oct 64, followed a 13 day lay-up for repair of landing gear bogie damage received during the first flight landing. Engine start was initially scheduled for 0630, but was delayed at approximately 0530 hours when the single point refueling receptacle poppet valve broke and had to be replaced. Engine start began at 1434 and was completed without delay. Taxi to the east end of the main Edwards AFB runway began at 1510. An 84 KIAS taxi run made to the center taxiway for brake burn-in and chatter checks. The airplane then taxied from the runway, following taxiways, to the west end of the runway at 1536.
