DEFENSE HEALTH CARE : Challenges Facing DOD in Implementing NationwideManaged Care

Abstract

The Department has made substantial progress in implementing TRICARE, and we commend DOD officials for tackling this ambitiousbut necessary undertaking. TRICARE embodies many of the lessons learned from DOD's managed health care demonstration projects overthe last several years. We believe that it offers the potential for improving beneficiary access to care, maintaining high-qualitycare, and gaining control of health care costs.
