LOE1-focused Ignite S and T Workshop Proceedings; Maximizing Human Potential Line of Effort 1: Optimize Health and Enhance Human Performance

Abstract

The Army Futures Command (AFC) Maximizing Human Potential (MHP) sprint team was initially tasked with understanding the human-level demands of the FOE 2040 , documenting the human performance requirements of the operational force; identifying critical areas for research, development, test and evaluation (RDT and E); and supporting the modernization of how the Army acquires, develops, and manages its personnel. The MHP operational approach defines three lines of effort (LOE): LOE 1: Optimizing Health and Human Performance; LOE 2: Optimizing Human-System Performance; and, LOE 3: Optimizing Talent Management. The U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command (MRDC) has been designated as the lead for LOE 1. As acting LOE1 lead organization, U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM, MRDC subordinate lab), with support from other MRDC subordinate labs and AFC subordinate S and T organizations (including Combat Capability Development Command or DEVCOM and relevant Program Executive Offices, Cross Functional Teams and Capability Development Integration Directorates), is working to synchronize efforts in support of the MHP mission and determine the necessary science and technology (S and T) to deliver capabilities to optimize health and enhance human performance for Soldiers, Leaders and Senior Leaders in the FOE2040 . To that end, LOE1 initiated a workshop series to develop a comprehensive picture of the S and T landscape related to optimizing health and enhancing human performance with particular focus on preliminary gaps and opportunities to provide critical opportunities to leverage LOE-specific science and technology investments to address capabilities defined in the Army concepts. This report presents an overview of LOE1 and a summary of workshop proceedings pertaining to the LOE1-focused Ignite workshop series.
