Clinical Outcomes Resulting from Proactive Reengagement by a Tobacco Quitline
Abstract
The purpose of the current study was to determining the degree to which 12-month quitline quit rates can be improved with reengagement of callers whose first dose of quitline treatment failed to establish abstinence. Participants were 614 TRICARE insurance beneficiaries, each of whom received a validated, four-session tobacco cessation tobacco cessation intervention with an option for free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). A scheduled three-month check-in afforded callers who had not yet achieved abstinence to reengage with additional quitline counseling.
