The Ready Reserve Mobilization Income Insurance Program

Abstract

The Ready Reserve Mobilization Income Insurance Program (RRMIIP) was instituted in response to growing concerns about the reported financial losses incurred by some reservists1 who were activated for the Persian Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm/Shield, 1990-1991). Although the Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act (SSCRA)2 has long given reservists some protection against financial loss due to mobilization, one survey sponsored by the Department of Defense(DoD) indicated that as many as two-thirds of the reservists activated during Operation Desert Shield/Storm suffered economic loss as a result of their deployment.3
