Improved HAWK

Abstract

After investigating the probable cause of the April, 1973, IH missile breakup, the Ad Hoc Group found that the breakup was from the loss of missile roll control when maneuvering in response to guidance commands. The condition should be corrected as the breakups or large misses affect both operational system performance and training for defense against multiple or maneuvering targets. Except for the breakup anomaly, improved HAWK overall performance greatly exceeds that of Basic HAWK. The Group recommends that the condition be corrected as the breakups or large misses affect both operational system performance and training for defense against multiple or maneuvering targets. Specific product improvements: recommendations: roll autopilot bandwidth increase, a seeker head pressure increase and a elevon servo pressure increase.
