Drug Control: Status Report on DOD Support to Counternarcotics Activities

Abstract

This is the first in a series of reports responding to your request for information on the Department of Defenses implementation of its new counternarcotics responsibilities as setout in the fiscal year 1989 National Defense Authorization Act, Specifically, this status report provides information on the Departments (1) organizational structures established to carry out these responsibilities, (2) intelligence and communications networks devoted to the new counternarcotics mission, (3) overall mission budgeting and funding, and (4) efforts to measure its performance in carrying out its new responsibilities. Future reports will discuss the results of our ongoing detailed reviews of each of these areas-organization, intelligence, communications, and funding.
