Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT) Form T Evaluation: Item-Level Analyses

Abstract

This report describes item-level psychometric results of the 10 cognitive subtests on the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT) Form T, versions T1 and T2. The following were analyzed for each subtest: item difficulty, item discriminability, internal consistency if item is deleted, omission rates, overt guessing, distractor analysis, common items analysis, mean score subgroup differences, and item drift. Results show no major issues with the cognitive subtests. We found no practical differences between versions T1 and T2, therefore no equating was necessary. Overall, the mean score subgroup differences associated with items varied from small to large. Form T seemed to have better psychometric properties than were reported for Form S. These item-level results provide foundation for subtest-level analyses and the essential information which will allow the subtests to be improved in future AFOQT versions.
