Leadership Doctrine of the Armed Forces: Similarities and Differences in Service Level Philosophies

Abstract

This paper examines current U.S. military leadership doctrine. Joint and service-level doctrinal publications are individually analyzed to distill the core elements, including definitions of relevant terms, values statements, and organizational models. The components of each service's doctrine are then compared to identify similarities and differences. Finally, thoughts on a joint approach to leadership doctrine are offered to apply the findings.
