The European Union's Challenge on the Migration Crisis

Abstract

Europe is facing a migration crisis similar to the mass migration movement that originated at the end of World War II. Libya and Syria play a central role in this crisis. The EUs response to the immigration crisis has been slow, fragmented, and inadequate. The recent Paris terrorist has complicated the scenario. As a result of this event, several EU member states have closed their borders and erected fences, undermining the Schengen Area free-zone agreement. Far-right parties are increasing consensus within Europe, fueling anti-immigrant and anti-EU sentiments. In addition, Great Britain will hold a referendum on whether to quit the EU next June 2016. The risk of disintegration is still impending.
