Revisiting U.S. Strategies of Counter-Proliferation: Military Power and Preventing the Spread of Nuclear Weapons in the Middle East

Abstract

With the rise of Iran as a regional power, coupled with the opacity of its intent to develop nuclear weapons, other regional states could make the decision to weaponize their respective civil nuclear programs. As a leader of the nuclear non-proliferation regime, this potentiality presents a significant challenge to the United States and threatens its interests.
