Human Domain: The Critical Aspect to the Army's Application of Force

Abstract

The fundamental misunderstanding of the human domain in recent wars shows a neglect of the human aspects of war. The human domain encompasses all aspects of the social sciences as it relates to the people and the environment. Enemy behavior in recent wars demonstrates how the United States Army must compete for the human domain. The enemy has an inherent advantage by intermixing with the local population for the recruitment of terrorism, the rise of insurgency, and the employment of attacks against soldiers. Therefore, the United States Army must invest in human domain capabilities to remain the most dominant land force in the world. Bridging the gap of understanding will strongly complement tactics.
