Russia's Black Sea Strategy after Crimean Annexation

Abstract

Recent events in the Black Sea region, especially after Russia annexed Crimea, shows Russias renewed interest in an area disputed within a geopolitical competition as well as the countrys use of a new strategy. In fact, it is part of the emerging pattern of anti-access/area denial regions in the proximity of big powers with revisionist agenda where the freedom can be questioned and even suspended by the will of the strongest power. This hybrid or non-linear warfare practiced by Russia in the Black Sea region aims to weaken the ability of reaction of government targets - by exploiting popular grievances or corruption makers.
