COMMAND AND CONTROL: Upgrades Allow Deferral of $500 Million Computer Acquisition

Abstract

The computer hardware used for the system originally was acquired during the 1970s. Defense recognized in 1982 that the computer hardware and software needed to be improved significantly. At that time, Defense began its modernization program, which had as a basic premise that the existing computer systems had to be replaced with new state of-the-art computer systems.
