Armor Evolution 2025: Surface Assault in the Littorals
Abstract
The procurement of the Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV) into the USMC's armor community facilitates an opportunity to capitalize on a modern armored vehicle to develop a Family of Vehicles (FoV) that can fulfill the community specific requirements of the Tank, Assault Amphibian, and Light Armored Vehicle Community's. Faced with an obsolete inventory of armored vehicles coupled with languishing Joint supporting capabilities to conduct an amphibious assault of a hostile shoreline, the USMC must take the opportunity now, to develop its armored vehicle fleet into a self-deploying, self-sustaining, interoperable fleet of vehicles. The Amphibious Combat Vehicle's ability to add additional weight in the form of weapon and armor requirements while still remaining buoyant allows a mutually supporting group of vehicles to be developed that can reinvigorate the USMCs ability to conduct surface amphibious assaults.
