Marine Aviation: Enabling the Implementation of Marine Corps Operating Concept (MOC) 2025

Abstract

The Pacific Campaign of World War II provides multiple lessons that apply to today's Marine Corps as it works through the myriad of problems outlined in the Marine Corps Operating Concept 2025: How an Expeditionary Force Operates in the 21st Century (MOC). One of the issues not listed in the current operating concept belongs to Marine Corps Aviation and the Aviation Ground Support units that provide the enabling functions, allowing Aviation to project power. Currently, the Aviation Ground Support units do not have the proper doctrine, equipment set and manpower to fully enable the F-35. The F-35 is Aviations bid for success as they support the MOC; without the F-35, the MOC is unsupportable by Marine Aviation.
