Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations

Abstract

This paper offers three perspectives of an up-and-coming concept within the USMC from the lens of a US Navy Officer. The first perspective proposes how this new concept can be employed rapidly, with readily available commercial off the shelf technology, to better enable the USMC and USN more lethality and increased operational tempo within an adversary's littoral waters and submerged within their A2AD area. The second perspective shows how these concepts are anything but new, employed rapidly and successfully during the World War II Guadalcanal Campaign. The final perspective aims to show how modern nuclear powered aircraft carriers are inherently terrible EABO platforms.
